YOUR SUPPORT MAKES A DIFFERENCE

Since 2013, Safe Space Winter Shelter has been embodying justice and community care alongside supporters like you. With your support Safe Space has evolved from a small compassionate group who welcomed a number of unhoused neighbors into the Chico Peace and Justice Center during a cold winter night into a rising, community-powered nonprofit that has set the standard for effective, low-barrier sheltering in our community. 

Your generous support has not only helped us build capacity for new opportunities, but has enabled us to build and refine our low-barrier model into a bridge of trust and care between our unhoused community and our housed community. Together, our shelter guests, our staff, our volunteers and supporters create a Safe Space of love, community and justice. 

We are embarking on a quest to transition from providing temporary, seasonal, shelter each year to becoming a 24/7, year round, permanent low-barrier shelter with supportive services. In short, this would mean securing a permanent location, having immediate shelter beds available nightly, while providing full wraparound services and care for each guest, supporting them as they overcome obstacles and secure and sustain permanent housing.
